Sonia to run at Family Fitness Festival in Farmleigh
The One Mile Family Challenge – a FREE walk, jog or run event – is set to be one of the highlights of this year's Athletics Ireland Family Fitness Festival in Farmleigh, and Sonia O’Sullivan has confirmed she we will be taking part along with her two daughters.
"This is a great opportunity for parents to become active role models and walk, jog or run the one mile distance," said former Olympic medallist Sonia O’Sullivan.
"I attended the Athletics Ireland Family Fitness Festival at Farmleigh last year and it was a brilliant day out. This year I am returning and bringing my two daughters, Sophie and Ciara, to share in the experience and we will take part together in the One Mile Challenge- a distance that is within everyone’s reach.
"We also plan on taking part in the Orienteering-Treasure Run which is another hugely enjoyable family friendly event," said Sonia. "This is a wonderful chance for all the family, parents, children and even grandparents to have a day of real fun activities in Farmleigh – and it’s all for free. I am sure that families will welcome this rare opportunity to have such a leisurely day at such little expense."
An Olympic 5000m silver medallist in Sydney 2000 and former World Champion, Sonia will be also be o" hand to encourage children who are taking part in the Little Athletics events. "I love encouraging young children to take part in sport and it reminds me of when I was young myself," she said. "If I had not received encouragement back then from my parents, my club, my coach and Irish Athletics, I might never have even started to compete in athletics.
